ABC's of a Godly Home Day Z

Day Z - Zeal and Zest

Spiritual Challenge Day Z - Zeal. Zeal is an ardent eagerness in pursuit of something. This is our last day of the ABC's challenge and I am hoping you have found your zeal. I hope you have zeal in your relationship with God and with your family. I hope you have zeal when it comes to caring for your home. I pray you no longer see your housework and chores as drudgery but instead as a way to serve God and your family. If you feel you are lacking that zeal, pray for it and ask God to give it to you abundantly!

Physical Challenge Day Z - Zest. Zest is a quality of enhancing enjoyment; a keen enjoyment. Your physical challenge today is to go about your daily schedule with zest. I want you to truly enjoy your home and your family. If you are having a down day and just really don't feel like you can enjoy your housework today, take a moment right now and pray. Ask God to change your attitude and then allow Him to do it. You can't ask Him for help but then hold onto selfishness or bitterness. Let go of any wrong feelings and pray earnestly for zest. He will give it to you! Your challenge is to smile as you go about your day, sing praises to God and truly have ZEST today!

I am so proud of you for taking this challenge and following through to the end. I cannot wait to hear how your hearts and attitudes have been changed by these challenges or how much better your home is functioning. Please share your stories with me, I would love to read them. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day Y

Day Y - Yearn and Yard

Spiritual Challenge Day Y - Yearn. What do you yearn for? To yearn means to feel a longing or craving. So, what do you yearn for? My prayer is that you yearn for God. Although this verse doesn't use the exact word yearn, it still conveys the message: Psalm 119:20 "My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times." I encourage you to read Psalm 119 today, it is filled with verses like this and reminds us our longing is to be for God and Him alone. If you aren't yearning for God or His word, pray and ask Him to give you that desire. The more time you spend reading God's word, the more time you will want to read His word.

Physical Challenge Y - Yard. Your physical challenge today is to spend a little time working in your yard. Do you need to rake, pick up trash or weed your flower bed? Maybe you need to plant some flowers. Your yard is the first thing people see when they come to your home, what does your yard say about you? Now before you start in on me about how we aren't supposed to worry about what the world thinks, yes I know. However, you also want to be a good steward with what God has given you and if your grass is 3 feet tall and there is trash all over your yard, are you really caring for the things God has blessed you with? What kind of example are you setting if you don't care enough to take care of your yard? I don't mean it has to be perfectly landscaped and immaculate, not going to happen around my home! I do think it is important to try to keep it neat and trimmed if possible. It's your decision on how you want your yard to look, but today your challenge is to spend some time working out there. So come on, shut this computer off, get your garden gloves and head outside for a little while. Just be sure to take some water with you, around here, it's HOT outside!

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day X

Day X - Xray and Xtra (yeah I know)

Spiritual Challenge Day X - X ray. Your challenge for today is to xray your heart and see what is really inside it. Yes, some of these spiritual challenges overlap or tend to be very similar but it's really important that we keep a check on our heart and our priorities. I know for me that it is a constant battle to keep my heart truly and completely focused on God and not on my circumstances or the world around me. So today, take some time to do a heart check. Is your heart filled with God's word? Is your heart's desire to be pleasing to God in everything you do? Or are you trying to keep up with the world and it's ways? Pray about this and really seek to have a heart filled with God and His ways.

Physical Challenge - Xtra. Yes, I know extra starts with an e but I was not having much luck finding and x word to fit in here, so there ya have it. Your physical challenge for today is to do an extra chore. We all have that list of things we need to get done sometime but we just keep putting it off, well today is the day. You know what I'm talking about, those chores we just dread doing so we keep putting them off. Well not today, we are going to pick one and tackle it. If you can't decide which one to do, write several on slips of paper, fold them all up and just pick one. Whichever one you pick, that is the one you will do today. One word of caution, find a chore that fits the amount of time you can spend on it. Don't decide to clean out an entire closet if you only have 15 minutes. Choose a chore that you can actually get done without taking away from everything else you need to get done today. Remember, have fun!

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day W

Day W - Well and Wash

Spiritual Challenge Day W - Well. Your spiritual challenge today is to drink from the living well.  "Jesus said to her, 'Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.' " John 4:13 Are you taking time daily to spend time with Jesus, drinking from His word and filling your cup? I challenge you to renew your commitment to Him today, your commitment to really spend time with Him and reading His word. Be filled so that your cup may overflow to others.

Physical Challenge Day W - Wash. Your physical challenge today is to wash something that really needs it. It could be your bed sheets, your comforter, your curtains or kitchen counter. Take the time today to find something that could use a good washing and then do it. Don't obsess about this or make it take all day, just set aside a little time to wash something today.

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day V

Day V - Vessel and victories.

Spiritual Challenge Day V- Vessel. Are you a vessel for God? Are you open and willing to let God use you in whatever way He wants? It's easy to say yes, but do we really mean it? Alot of times I thought I was willing but then realized I was putting limitations on what I was actually open to. Today you spiritual challenge is to exam your heart and see if you really are open to whatever God has for you. Pray and ask Him to reveal any areas where you might be setting limitations. Here's a good questions to ask yourself: When you volunteer to help at church, VBS or any other similar function, do you tell the coordinator where you will or will not work? Or do you simply say I'm willing to help wherever you need me? Open yourself up and see what God will do with a willing heart.

Physical Challenge Day V- Victories. This is our last week with the ABC's challenge and what I want you to do is to reflect over the last few weeks and make a note of any victories you have seen. For example, maybe you have been able to control your tongue better or perhaps, you have been more willing to die to self and serve your family. Maybe your victory is getting your bed made everyday or getting a meal plan made and sticking to it. Whatever your victories are, I want you to share one with the rest of us to encourage us to keep on keeping on. Come on, I know you've had at least one victory during this challenge.

Blessings to you all,
Rashel

Slight delay in ABC's

I just wanted to let you all know that there may be a slight delay in the ABC's of a Godly Home because I am still helping my family get everything cleaned up, salvaged and into a new place. Last week the post went uninterrupted because I already had them done and scheduled to post automatically. I will try to get todays posted sometime today, but it won't be this morning. I am really sorry for the inconvenience to all of you who are following along, but I am sure you all understand.

Thank you and blessings to each of you,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day U

Day U - Under and Unity

Spiritual Challenge Day U - Under. Your spiritual challenge today is to make sure you are under God's influence not the world's. I know I have talked about this before, but I guess I'm bringing it up again because it is something that I need reminded of alot. God is our example and influence, not the world. We are to make sure our lives and our homes are pleasing to God and not worry about what the world thinks. For today, pray and make sure that you are under God's influence in your home and family.

Physical Challenge Day U - Unity. Your physical challenge today is to make sure your family is in unity regarding your daily schedule. Is everyone following it? Do your children have their own schedule or do they need one? Is everyone on board with your goals for your home and your homeschool or do you need to reevaluate them and discuss them? Your challenge is to make sure there is unity in the home and if not, see what can be done to remedy that. Get your family's input on how things are going and if any changes need to be made.

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day T

Day T - Thirsty and Temple

Spiritual Challenge Day T - Thirsty. Are you thirsty for God? He says that if we will drink from His well, we will never thirst again. We are to be thirsty for God, craving His word as if we would starve without it. Your spiritual challenge today is to drink in God's word and quench your thirst. Take time to really enjoy it, to bask in it and be refreshed. Don't rush this, just enjoy your time in His word. (Whatever time of the day you can work it in, you know what works best for you)

Physical Challenge Day T - Temple. Today I want you to think about your home being a temple for God. Would it be pleasing to Him? Wait wait, don't freak out as you look around at the dirty clothes on the floor or the school books on the table. I'm talking about the atmosphere of your home and the influences you allow to enter it. Your challenge today is to take a good look at your home and see if there are things that are inhibiting your relationship with God. Are you allowing evil in your home through certain books or other forms of media? How about the attitudes in your home? Are they pleasing to God? I know we all have bad times but I'm talking about the norm in your home. Stop and look around your home, are your books one that would lead you to God or away? What about the movies you watch? Do you need to spend some time correcting bad attitudes instead or worrying about finishing math today? Ask God to guide you as you work toward making your home a temple for God.

ABC's of a Godly Home Day S

Day S - Serve and Scrub

Spiritual Challenge Day S- Serve. Jesus was the greatest example of how to be a servant and we should learn from Him. He didn't serve because He had to and He didn't serve because He was lower than others. He had every right to make others serve Him, yet He chose to be a servant instead. What an awesome example for us! Galatians 5:13 reminds us "..but through love serve on another." Your spiritual challenge today is to pray and ask God to give you a servant's heart for your family. If your heart attitude is right, you will willingly serve and do it with the right attitude. If you serve because you know you have to but you harbor bitter feelings, your attitude will show it and your family will know it. How much better a blessing would it be if you served with a right heart, out of love for them and a genuineness for their happiness? Pray for your heart attitude and then look for ways to lovingly serve your family today and each day.

Physical Challenge Day S - Scrub. Okay this one is pretty self explanatory isn't it? Your physical challenge today is to scrub, but what do I scrub you ask? I will let you decide because I am not in your home and I don't know what needs it most but you do. I will give you some ideas though. Walk into your kitchen and look at your sink. Can you see the bottom of it or are there dishes piled in it? Look at the back of it behind the faucet, is there any gunk building up back there? If you answered yes to either of those, than I suggest you start by scrubbing your kitchen sink. If there are dishes in the way, wash them first and then get out your favorite cleaner and scrub in and all around your sink. Or maybe you should walk into your bathroom and look at your shower. Now don't get scared it's okay, that soap scum doesn't bite. Can you see that layer all around the bottom of your tub? Are there water spots in the corners? Perhaps you should scrub you shower instead. Again, I'll let you decide. You take a look and see what needs it worst and start there. IF you have time, then you can just keep on scrubbing until you've done your kitchen and bathroom sinks, the toilet and the shower! However, don't get obsessed and don't neglect your family. If it would help, set the timer for 15 minutes and just scrub until it goes off. Have fun!

ABC's of a Godly Home Day R

Day R - Rest and Rest

Spiritual Challenge Day R - Rest. "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28. Today we are going to talk about two kinds of rest, the spiritual and the physical. Spiritual rest is what our above verse is talking about, rest for your soul. We are to trust God with everything in our lives, even that one thing that you just keep hanging onto and worrying about. Give it to God. God is in control and He has the best intentions for you. He can give you rest, but you have to let Him. Your challenge for today is to pray and give every single care to God. Give Him every circumstance in your life, whether it is a job situation, a home situation, feeding your family or a health concern. Give it ALL to God. Trust Him to take care of it, He knows better how to handle it than you do anyway. Pray and lay it all down at His feet and when you get up from praying, don't pick those burdens up again. Leave them there!

Physical Challenge Day R - Rest. This type of rest is physical but I'm not necessarily talking about taking a nap. However, if you really need a nap, take one! I actually want to encourage you to rest by taking a break from your household chores and playing with your children. Yes, playing can be restful. I want you to take some time today to lay aside all the busyness of life and just rest and enjoy your children. There are so many ways to play with your children, but the best way is by doing what they want to do. Don't plan play time, just tell them you want to play with them and after they get over the shock, ask them what they want to play. It's that easy. Some children might just want to pop some popcorn, snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie, that counts too. The important thing today is to take some time to leave your chores behind and spend time with your children. If you have time later, I would love for you to leave me a comment and let me know how you played.

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day Q

Day Q - Quiet and Queen

Spiritual Challenge Day Q - Quiet. 1 Peter  3:3,4 "Do not let your adorning be external-the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear- but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious." Today your challenge is to look at yourself and to see if you are more concerned with your external or internal beauty. This might be easy for some of you but for others it might be really hard. The above verse reminds us that to God, our heart and our spirit are of more concern than our outer beauty. Another thing that we need to see in this verse is that we are to have a gentle and quiet spirit. Loud talk, yelling and being harsh with our words are not characteristics of a gentle and quiet spirit. So today ask God to help you have a gentle and quiet spirit and ask Him to keep your focus on your inner beauty more than your outer.

Physical Challenge Day Q - Queen. I want you to realize that you are the queen of your castle. But I'm not talking about being queen in the sense of you make all the rules, I'm talking about how set the tone for your home. As queen your attitude effects the attitudes of all those around you. Have you ever realized that? Have you ever noticed that when you are short with your children, their attitudes start reflecting that? Your physical challenge today goes along with the theme of your spiritual challenge. Today you are to smile and be positive all day! No harsh words, no short tempers and no ugly wrinkled up faces. Smile! Everytime you go by a mirror, smile. Everytime you look at one of your children, smile. When your husband gets home, smile at him. Make a conscious effort today to be a happy and joyful queen.

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day P

Day P - Passion and Pick

Spiritual Challenge Day P - Passion. Today I want you to spend some time in prayer and ask God to help you renew your passion for God and your family. I know sometimes I can get so caught up in the daily grind that my focus gets off. I forget that my passion is to be on God first and then my family, not my daily chores or my laundry or my dirty dishes or on and on... So today, just take some time to renew your passion for what is truly important.

Physical Challenge Day P - Pick. Your physical challenge today is to pick one room in your home and spend at least 15 minutes cleaning it. You can pick your worst room or you can pick the room that is most noticeable in your home; it's your choice so whatever room you want to work in is fine. Then grab a timer, set it for 15 minutes and get busy. Don't obsess about this, just get your timer and get to work. If all you have time for is 15 minutes then great! But, if you have time to do a little more than all the better. Remember though, this is not a thorough spring cleaning and I don't want you to pull everything out and go from corner to corner. I just want you to pick a room that needs some attention and work on it for at least 15 minutes. Ok, that's it so go get your timer!

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day O

Day O - Own and Old

Spiritual Challenge Day O - Own. Today I want you to really take some time and pray and ask God to help you be content and satisfied with your own life. It is so easy for us to compare our lives to others, our homes to others and our children to others, but that is not healthy. God has given you just the right home, children and husband. Take time today to thank Him for them and to be truly content living your own life.

Physical Challenge Day O - Old. Your physical challenge today is to make sure you are not slipping into your old habits. Are you still following your schedule? Are you still taking time each day to spend with God? Are you still speaking kindly and with control to your children? Or are you letting your old habits sneak back in? Stop today and evaluate your behavior and actions to see if you are still on track. If you need to, read back through some of the challenges to renew your comittment. Pray and ask God to reveal any areas that you might be letting old hurtful habits back into your life.

I also want you to know that even if I can't respond to each comment individually, I do read each one and I very much appreciate you taking the time to let me know how you are doing. Thank you!

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day N

Day N - Notice and Needs

Spiritual Challenge Day N - Notice. Today is about taking the time to notice the little things. I want us to pay attention to the small things our family does that most of the time we don't recognize or notice. For instance, maybe you have two siblings that seem to quarrel constantly, so today you would watch for a time when they are getting along or at least being civil and recognize it. Praise them for that moment of kindness. Perhaps your husband never picks up his socks but today he does, notice it and thank him for it. Or maybe your little one picks you a flower and instead of just saying thanks and going on, hug them and tell them how pretty it is and really thank them for it. There are so many examples I could give but hopefully these few will get you thinking. It's just all about taking the time to notice the little things they do and then acknowledging them. Pray and ask God to open your eyes to all the little things in your life today.

Physical Challenge Day N - Needs. Your physical challenge today is fairly simple. All you are to do is keep a list on your fridge or somewhere else that is easily accessible and everytime you see something you are about to run out of, add it to the list. Yes, you will be making a shopping list. I know some of you are thinking I've lost my mind thinking you need to be told to do this but it may be a new concept to others. So, if you already do this, good job and just make sure your list is up to date. If you aren't used to this, it is pretty simple. You just keep a running list and everytime you realize you are low on something, just write it on your list. If you use the last of something, write it on the list. If you open the last bag or box of something, write it on your list. This will just help you to remember your needs when it is time to go to the store and also save time later when you go to make your list; you won't have to rummage through the cabinets trying to remember what it was you needed. That's it, so go grab a piece of paper, write shopping list across the top and stick it to the fridge.

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day M

Day M - Meditate and Meals

Spiritual Challenge Day M - Meditate. Psalm 1:1,2 "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night." Now I know that we can't physically sit and meditate on God's word day and night, we are wives and moms and we have other things that we must do. However, I do believe that we can think about His word day and night; we can continually be thinking about what God's word says about each situation that comes up in our lives and how we are to respond to it. We can memorize scripture throughout the day by placing it around our home, notecards here and there or our bible laying open somewhere. The point is that we are to make time for God's word and we are to be thinking about it, meditating on it, day and night. Your spiritual challenge is to meditate on God's word each day, to make sure you are spending time in His word daily.

Physical Challenge Day M - Meals. Today we are going to look at meal planning. There are numerous ways to do this and if you have your own way, great! Use what you are comfortable with but if you don't know how to get started, I will help you. I'm just going to give you a very simple way of meal planning to get you going. Meal planning relieves alot of stress by knowing what you have planned for dinner and knowing you have the ingredients to make it. No more last minute wondering what is for supper or having to order out because you don't have anything prepared. We are just going to work on one week and then if you want, you can add another week when you have time. My meal plans are for two weeks and go from Thursday to Wednesday, simply because that is how I do my shopping. What I want you to do is just grab a sheet of paper, list Tuesday through Monday down the left side leaving a few spaces between each day. Now grab your calendar and make a note next to each day if you have something scheduled that day. For instance on Monday we have ball practice, on Saturday we have a rodeo, etc. This will help you to know if you need a crockpot meal that day, a fast to fix meal or have time to actually cook in the evening. Now think of several meals you could fix using the food you already have in your home and write them down. Next look at the list of meals, think about which one would work on which day and write it next to that day. We are only working on dinner today, don't worry about breakfast and lunch. If you want, you could just make a list of breakfasts and lunches you could easily fix and pick one each day. It's up to you. That is all there is to it, now you have a menu plan for the next week. You can easily glance at it the evening before to see if you need to thaw meat, soak beans, etc. You can also look each morning to see if there is any prep work you can do ahead of time to make dinner time easier. Don't stress over this and don't think it has to be perfect, just do it. :)

Blessings,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day J

Day J- Joy and Just pray

Spiritual Challenge Day J - Joy. We have a saying around our home to remind us of true joy; Jesus first, Others second and Yourself last. When we keep our focus on Jesus first we will be weighing everything we do against His word and His will. The first commandment states "You shall have no other gods before me" Exodus 20:3, nothing is to come before God. Other gods doesn't just mean pagan gods, it is anything you give more importance to than God. It can be television, computer, sports or yourself to name a few. God must come first in our lives. Next is others as Philippians 2:3,4 says "Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." We are to think more of others than we do ourselves. If we do this than we will not be consumed with what is fair or just to us, rather we will want what is best for others. We will give them our time instead of spending it selfishly and we will do what pleases them instead of thinking of ourselves. After we have considered Jesus and others, then we can consider ourselves. I have heard it said that true humility is not thinking lowly of yourself but rather not thinking of yourself at all. Putting yourself last is not thinking badly of yourself and it isn't denying yourself of the things you truly need. It is simply thinking of others before yourself. When you are truly putting Jesus and others before yourself, you won't think you are denying yourself because your TRUE happiness will be in making them happy. Your challenge is to meditate on Philippians 2:3,4 today and pray for true joy in your heart.

Physical Challenge Day J - Just pray. Today we are going to continue following our schedule and just pray about it. I want you to pray that God will reveal any areas that aren't working or need adjusting, and then that He would give you the wisdom to fix it. It is important to have a schedule that works for you and your family, one that makes things easier for you, not adds more burden. So look it over and think about it as you follow it today. See if you need to change times for certain chores or if everything is working smoothly. By the end of this journey I want you to have a working system in place and in order to know if it works, you have to use it. So, that is it for today. Just follow your schedule and pray about it.

Blessings my friends.

ABC's of a Godly Home - Day L

Day L- Love and Look

Spiritual Challenge Day L - Love. Monday's are usually a busy catch up day for us, so I thought I would make today's challenges a little easier than normal. Your spiritual challenge today is simple to love your family. Do something out of the ordinary that will make your family feel loved and special to you. It doesn't have to be something elaborate or expensive, it could be as simple as a picnic in the yard for dinner (of if it is cold out, a picnic in the living room). Or you could fix something really special for dessert and let them know you did it just for them. Pray and ask God to give you a wondeful idea to express your love to your family and then do it, that is your challenge for today. Then, come back here and leave a comment letting the rest of us know what you did!

Physical Challenge Day L - Look. The last few days you were to be keeping your schedule and today your challenge is to look over those days and see what might need changed. Are there things you need to rearrange or maybe you didn't schedule enough time for certain tasks? Today is the day to look over your schedule and make the necessary adjustments. I also expect you to still be following your schedule, from now on. I know you will have days that you aren't able to, but just jump back into the next day and go from there. Don't stress over it, just follow it as best as you can. See, that challenge isn't too hard is it? Let's get offline and get busy loving our families and our homes.

Blessings to you all!

ABC's of a Godly Home Day K

Day K – Keeper and Keep

Spiritual Challenge Day K – Keeper at home. Today is not really about keeping your home as much as it is about being AT home. Titus 2:5 “To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” This verse gives us direction in so many areas that I just don’t have time to discuss them all today. The part I want to look at is obviously “keepers at home”. Now, I realize this verse has been translated in many different ways but they all mean the same thing and this version puts it best for our topic today. Notice it says AT home, I just don’t see how we can take care of our homes if we aren’t at home. Now, I’m not just talking to working women but to the stay at home moms that find themselves running here and there all of the time. If we are constantly running to the store, going on field trips, doing things with or for friends, or going to sports activities, how do we have time to take care of our homes? I know sometimes our lives get busy and we can’t help it, but look at your normal lifestyle and see if you are away from your home too much. Are there things you are doing that aren’t necessary but only taking up more of your time? How can you expect to keep your home if you are never there? I’m not saying we have to cut out everything extra in our lives, I’m just encouraging you to look at those things to see what might be taking too much of your time. Today’s challenge is to pray and ask God to reveal to you anything that may be hindering your job as wife and mom and then discuss those things with your dh to see how you might free up more of your time. I know for me one of the things I had to do was limit my trips to town to once a week (when possible), not only does this keep me home more but saves a lot of money in gas!

For the working women, I pray you will search your hearts and make sure you are working because your family can’t survive if you don’t, not just because you want to or like the extra money. Working outside the home is a decision you have to make with your own husband and be submissive to his wishes; I do however believe it is God’s will that wives and mothers be at home. That’s all I will say about it for now though due to limited space and time.

Physical Challenge K – Keep. Today your challenge is to keep your schedule. I know this was the challenge yesterday, but it is important to follow it and determine if it is working for you or if you need to adjust it. The only way to know if it works or not is to follow it (I think I’m repeating myself here). So, that is it, keep your schedule and evaluate your day as you go. I would love to hear from you and know how your schedule is working! Have a great day my friends.

Blessings,

Rashel

Confessions and God's lesson

I have to confess something to you. My house was a total mess this morning. We have been so busy lately and running here and there that I just haven't had time to keep up with chores let alone follow our schedule. I am working on trying to get our activities limited, but I can't change it overnight. Things should settle down after Friday because that is our last "extra" thing but we still have alot going on. I won't bore you with all of the details of our busy life because I'm sure you all have your own things that keep you running but I want to share something that came to me this morning. I was really feeling unworthy this morning as I was writing my daily challenge for the ABC's of a Godly Home since I was sitting in the middle of a chaotic mess. Let me describe my chaos to you for just a moment; clean dishes on the counter to put away, dirty dishes in the sink to wash, a major hotspot on my kitchen table, clean clothes piled on the couch to put away, a mountain of dirty clothes in the bathroom to wash and I don't even want to tell you how dirty my floors were! That is in addition to clutter scattered about and shoes left in about every room. Are you getting the picture? It wasn't pretty. So I'm thinking to myself that I have no business encouraging you in how to make a godly home when I can't even keep my own home clean and that is when God spoke to my heart. This challenge isn't just about getting a clean home, it is about our attitudes and our hearts as well. And do you know what? My attitude toward my husband and my children has been so much better since starting this challenge that it is okay if my house occasionally becomes CHAOS. We don't live in a state of chaos and it doesn't take us long to get things back in order when it happens. My home is a godly home because we love God and because we are doing our best to live according to His will. I know that His will is that my heart is toward my husband and children. It is His will that my speech be helpful not hurtful. It is His will that I be a godly example to those around me. It is those things that make a godly home, not how clean my home is. Although, it's hard to practice hospitality in chaos. So while a clean and orderly home is important, it is not the total picture. I pray that you are learning that through the ABC's challenge. I do pray that your home will become orderly and comfortably clean for you and your family but my main prayer is that you will learn to love and enjoy your family more as you draw nearer to God.
So, what does my home look like right now? Because I had my daily lists in place and my children had their room chore lists, we all knew what we had to get accomplished and we got busy. In a short time my laundry piles have diminished greatly, the dishes are washed, the clutter picked up and floors swept. Is it perfect? No, but it is liveable now. We still have some cleaning chores I want to get done today but at least our home is now in order if company were to come by. AND I kept my speech loving and my heart attitude right in the process. So be encouraged my friends, days will come when we don't have time to keep our schedules and your home may suffer but what is important is to keep your heart and attitude reflecting God.

Blessings my friends,
Rashel

ABC's of a Godly Home Day I

Day I - Inspire and initiate

Spiritual Challenge Day I - Inspire. Ephesians 4:29 tells us "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it my give grace to those who hear".  Proverbs 12:25 "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." Proverbs 16:24 "Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." There are so many verses in the bible that refer to our speech which means it must be pretty important to God. Our words can defnitely tear someone down or lift them up. Today your spiritual challenge is to pick a verse about speech to meditate on and then to use your words to inspire someone instead of tearing them down. THINK about your words today before you speak them. Are they True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind? Make a conscious effort today to inspire your husband and children.

Physical Challenge Day I - Initiate. Today you are going to initiate your schedule. I want you to post your schedule where you can easily see it and then follow it as close as possible today. As you follow it pay attention to things that work well and things that might need a little tweaking. Don't worry if you get a late start and don't worry if you don't follow it perfectly, just do the best you can today. Make sure you plan tonight to get up at your scheduled time tomorrow so you don't start off the day behind :)

I hope you have a blessed day!
