Being our husband's helpmeet

I know there may be single women reading this and you may think that this does not pertain to you, however I believe it does. God may have plans for you to marry at some time in your life and you will need to know what His word says about being a helpmeet for your future husband. Genesis 2:18 says, "And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." This ladies is why woman was created, to be an help meet to man, specifically our husbands. I recently read "Created to be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl and I highly recommend this book. She has such great advice and I didn't find any of it to be unbiblical. Ladies, let me tell you that this is an area I struggle in daily.

One area of being a help meet is submission, so let's address that one first shall we? By God's grace I am growing in this area daily but I still have so far to go. I am learning one day and one step at a time and I have to remember that being his help meet is not just keeping my mouth closed when I happen to disagree with something but it is a matter of my heart. If I am grumbling in my heart, I am not truly being submissive to him, which means I am not submitting to my Lord, Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. (also Col 3:18). Ladies, the Bible tells us many times that we are to submit to our husbands and if God saw fit to repeat Himself, I think we should take heed and listen. One dictionary I have defines submit as this: to give over or leave for the judgment or approval of someone else; to yield to power or authority, surrender. I believe we may lovingly share our opinions with our husband but then we must leave the final approval or judgment to him. We are called to submit to our husbands but our husbands are to submit to the Lord. It is not up to us to decide if they are following the Lord's leading, it is only up to us to follow our husbands leading. One day we will have to stand before the Lord and give an account of how well we submitted to our husbands, I pray I can give a good account. There are many areas this applies to and next time I will dive deeper into specific areas. I will let you ponder and share about this for now.

Blessings,
Rashel

    Hi Rashel!
I guess I have a new blog to visit regularly!
I haven't read the book about being your husband's helpmeet(YET), but I have done a Hebrew word study with a Strong's Concordance, and Vine's Dictionary, and WOW! We have such a greater responsiblility than just being a "helper"- we are to aid, to surround and to guard our husbands (that means never speaking ill of him in front of others! It makes me cringe inside when I hear a woman criticize or speak negatively toward or about her husband.)
God convicted me early in our marriage that there are so many wonderful ways to bless my husband- and in turn, receive God's blessings myself! I plan to read the book (when I get it!)and look forward to growing each day as God molds me ito the woman He wants me to be.
This is a wonderful blog idea.
May God richly bless you on your journey!

  3. Richlyblessedmomof4, thank you for your input on this topic. I agree with all you said and it also makes me cringe when I hear others speak negatively about their husbands. I need to get another copy of the book and read it again. Thanks so much for stopping by!
