ABC's of a Godly Home - Day C

Day C - Contenment and children

Spiritual Challenge C- Contenment. 1 Timothy 6:7-8 tells us, "for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content." I have learned it is very easy for me to read other's blogs or look at other's homes and become discontent with my own life and home. I start comparing what I do with what other wives and mothers do or I start longing for a bigger, cleaner home like others have. I start comparing my children with other children. This is not what God would have me to do. God has placed me right where I am and He knows best for me. Why would I desire anything else?  Contentment is a choice.  I can choose to long for bigger and better or I can choose to rejoice with the blessings God has given me. The Bible tells me that He will provide for my needs and with that I should be content. Discontentment sows seeds of depression and despair; it robs your joy and breaks your spirit. When we become discontent with what we have, we start wallowing in self pity and start focusing on ourselves instead of serving God. We tell ourselves we aren't doing enough or our home isn't enough, and on and on it goes. Those thoughts are from the evil one. We need to "take every thought captive to obey Christ" (2Corinthians 10:5b). Your challenge today is to choose contentment, choose to rejoice in your circumstances and thank God for them. Thank Him for providing for you and taking care of your every need. Ask Him to help you be content and repent if you have not been.

Physical Challenge C- Children. Today's challenge is about teaching our children the skills they will need later in life, when they are taking care of a home of their own. (If you don't have children, I will have a different challenge for you below). I believe it is very important for our children to learn to be responsible and to learn to be good stewards with the things God has given us. Remember the lists you made yesterday? It's time to get those out and look over them. If you thought of something else you need to add, do that now. Your challenge is to look over your to do lists and decide which of those tasks your children can do for you. When you find a chore your children could learn (or already know), mark it somehow so you will be able to distinguish it later. Just for examples, you can see some of my childrens chores here or here. Remember, those are just for ideas, your children are different than my children or anyone elses. You know what your children are capable of, so you can decide which chores would suit them. Ok, that is your assignment for today. Pray over it and ask God to help you as you do it. Your home is your children's home as well and they should be responsible for helping to take care of it, from very young to as long as they live there.

Extra challenge C- This is for those of you that might night have children in your home and for those of you that might just want an extra assignment. {Sorry, no bonus points though :) }You are to get out your calendars and make sure each appointment or event is written on your calendar. Are there birthdays coming up you need to remember, due dates for projects or doctor appointments you know of? Make sure you write it all down and then post your calendar somewhere that it will be visible to all who need to remember those dates. Having it out where you can see it will help you remember to look at it, your calendar can't help you at all if you don't remember to look at it!

Rememer to leave me comments and let me know how it's going. I LOVE reading them.

Blessings,
Rashel

  3. Chelle, thank you!!

Tara, I struggle with this too. Our home is only 900sq ft and I admit I am not always content with it. I do desire to have more room but I'm trying to learn to be content with whatever God has given us. Thank you!
    Blessings,
