Bread: 4 loaves in 90 minutes

I made bread today and thought I would share a picture of the finished product and the recipe. I love this recipe, it is so simple and makes 4 loaves at a time. I have seen recipes that make 5 or 6 loaves at a time but 4 is all I can fit in my oven at one time, so I just stick with this recipe. Plus, I know it works awesome and it only has to rise once! It is also works when I make substitutions, a very forgiving recipe.

Easy 4 Loaf Bread Recipe

Ingredients:
4 cups hot water
3 Tbsp yeast
2/3 cup honey (can use sugar)
4 tsp salt
1/3 cup oil (I use olive)*
8-10 cups flour (I uses fresh ground but any combination of white and wheat will work)

I use my Kitchen Aid mixer for this but I know you can do it by hand as well.

1. Put yeast in mixer bowl, add 1 cup hot water, let sit till yeast is bubbly.
2. Turn mixer on, add honey, salt, oil, remaining 3 cups of water and 6 cups of the flour. Let this mix well, then add remaining flour until the dough is a consistency that is easy to handle. (not too sticky but a little)
3. Dump dough on floured surface and knead while adding just enough flour to make it nonsticky. Once it is easy to work with, I just knead a few more times, then divided into four pieces.
4. Shape each piece into a loaf shape (you don't have to spend alot of time on this, just close to a loaf shape works). Place into greased loaf pans. Cover with dish towel.
5. Let it rise for 30 minutes.
6. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When they come out of the oven, remove bread from pan and let cool on cooling rack. I like to run a stick of butter over the top just to lightly coat the top of the loaf.

*I have substituted 1 cup of flaxseed for the 1/3c oil and it works great plus gives some added nutrition.

That's it! Now you have four wonderful homemade loaves of bread. Enjoy!

  1. Those look delicious!!! A question...when you make it by hand, does it still only have to rise once? I have a bosch, but it's a small one, and can barely handle 2 loaves at a time, but I don't mind making it by hand. Thanks my dear!

    Sara

  2. I think I'll be trying this soon. It sounds really easy, and that's good for me! I still haven't made any bread yet (just the pizza dough, which is about the same I think). The element in our stove burned out yesterday so I have to wait until I get a new one, but I think this will be the 1st thing I cook!

  3. Sara, yes it still only rises once. The original recipe actually gave directions for mixing it by hand but I have adjusted it to how I make it :)

Everybody be sure to come back and let me know if you make it and how you like it. We sure enjoy it. And yes the smell is just wonderful.

  5. I thought this recipe looked great too. I used to make my own bread, but have gotten away from it. I was making it one loaf at the time and I felt like all I was doing was making bread.

Anyway, my question about it all is this. I have a KitchenAid stand mixer also, but do you know what capacity your work bowl is? I don't know if mine can handle that much flour.

  6. Elizabeth, I'm not sure the size of mine, a friend blessed me by giving it to me and it is an old one and seems to be heavy duty. However, I have another friend that has one and hers is just a standard one and works fine with this bread recipe. I say try it and if it seems to be too hard for it, just put it in a bowl and start mixing it with your hands :) Let me know if you try it and how it works. It is really nice to have 4 loaves at a time.
    Blessings,
    Rashel

  7. Thanks so much for sharing. Can you tell me the best way to freeze these loaves for my family. Blessings

  8. Tom, I think there are several ways to freeze them, but the way I do it is to wrap them in foil and then place in a freezer ziploc bag. Then I just take it out, leave it in the foil and let it thaw on the counter. If anyone else has any comments on this, feel free to share.
    Blessings,
    Rashel
