Rain can be a wonderful thing, watering our gardens and filling our ponds. It can bring life to things that are drying out and dying. On the other hand, too much rain can bring destructive flooding and destroy whatever it is in its path. Then there are times we have a nice gentle rain that is soothing and wonderful to listen to until we hear that annoying drip, drip, drip from our roof onto that tin can below. You know that drip, it is constant and becomes increasingly obnoxious.
No one wants to listen to that sound for very long.

I included three different versions so we could really get it into our heads that God does not want us to be nagging, quarrelsome wives. I really do not want my husband to think of me as a continual dripping on a rainy day, do you? I doubt it.
There are many ways we can be quarrelsome, it doesn't just mean arguing with our husband all of the time. Although, that would definitely qualify as quarrelsome. Are we constantly questioning how he does things: disciplines the children, takes care of the home or cars? Do we repeatedly complain about him leaving his dirty socks on the floor or his shoes in the middle of the room? Have we accepted his answer on certain issues or do we bring it up over and over hoping to get him to change his mind? Is there a certain "honey do" item that we have been asking him to do for months? Are we grumbling about his long hours at work and the little time he spends with his family?
All of those examples are ways we quarrel or nag as wives. If we are doing those things, then to our husbands we are like a continual, annoying drip. Why would our husbands want to spend more time with us if that how we sound to him? Let us purpose to stop dripping and instead become sweetness to the soul.
