Wow, it has been a week & decluttering

I can't believe it has been a week since I last posted on here. For those of you that like to follow along with me and read my posts, I am sorry it has been so long. I must admit though, that at times, it feels as if I am writing to myself. I really appreciate your comments and it lets me know I am not alone on here.

Okay, for today, I am going to talk about decluttering. I really need to declutter my bedroom, it has gotten just awful. How do you declutter? There are so many ways and I don't think one is better than the other. You just have to figure out what works for you. Sometimes, I take three boxes - one for give away, one for put away and one for trash. However, that takes time and room for the boxes. Most times, I don't have that kind of room or time. Today, my plan is to set my timer for 15 minutes and start in the worst place in my bedroom. I will put things where they belong, find a home for them or get rid of them as I go. If I have longer than 15 minutes, I will reset my timer and do it again. If not, I will be happy with what I accomplished in that time. Okay ladies, anybody with me? Please leave a comment and let me know if you are joining me.

Blessings,
Rashel

  2. I have been doing some decluttering today.I shoved everything to the middle of my sunporch and started sweeping behind every thing. We use the sun porch like a family room.
I put together a stool that had been sitting in the box since Thanksgiving:/
I threw out some old, dead plants. Got rid of a two huge boxes that I thought I might need.Sent everything that belonged to the children, to their rooms, except games. We have a game cabinet which is a great idea. It is nice to have games available in the family room or living room. When we have guest over they love to play games.
I also got a new/used couch today for the sun porch. I sweet talked my husband into picking up for me.It is starting to look nice out there. Tomorrow I will clean all of the windows, there are nine of them, mop the floors and wash the wood work down.
I have trubles when it comes to decluttering or cleaning, I do it all or none:)Also, I have gotten off of the decluttering issue, sorry about that.
I have done the 15 min timing before. It is fun to get the children involved in it, they think it is a game:) It is amazing at how much I can get done in 15 min.
I am going to declutter the whole house and I will try to share my journey in this.
I hope you do not get dicouraged with you post here since you feel like you are writting to yourself. There are a few who are reading and I for one enjoy everything that you post:)

  3. Since after Christmas until just about 2 weeks ago, I've been on a declutter mission. I'm a member of www.freecycle.com and as I get a pile I list it that same day and give preference to who can pick it up the fastest. For awhile there I was posting every other day. If felt so good. What doesn't get claimed gets taken to the GoodWill drop off that day. Also at one point we tried to move and I had packed stuff away as to "declutter" the house for showing. Well when we didn't move we had a huge garage sale with the things we didn't "need" any more. Try pretending your moving and put stuff in a box that you can live without right now. It's amazing what we can live without. Soon you realize your better off without it. Less dusting, picking up etc. It just feels so good to "purge". That's what my husband and I called it. We called it a "purgefest". I love reading everyones ideas. Keep up the good work ladies.
    Blessings,
    Kim

  4. I am so excited to see that I am not alone!! Thank you ladies for commenting and anyone else out there, I would still love to hear from you. I did get to declutter my bedroom for 15 minutes yesterday and it felt really good. I still have a long way to go, but babysteps are better than no steps. I won't be working on it much today or this weekend because dh is home and today was errand day. I will post Monday and let you know my decluttering plan for then. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy your family!

  5. Hi Rashel,
I was reading the comment here about the "purge."I will tell you that she has a great idea there and has reminded me of a time when we did the "purge." We were trying to sell our home so I packed up everything that we did not need. It all went to the garage and If I decided that I had to have something back in the house then I would go get it.A year passed and the house was not sold, the stuff that was still in the garage was sold and given away. It was WONDERFUL. Our home was so much easier to clean and it stayed oraganized without all the clutter.
I want to thank you for doing this post, your comments here have helped me to remeber a way of decluttering that I am going to try agin. I am going to start tomorrow, I will let you now how it goes. Maybe I will post before and after pictures on my blog. I still am working on my sunporch. I bought fabric last night to make new curtains. I know I am getting of the decluttering, but I get carried away with trying to make it all look perfect.
